Determine the most appropriate strategy for groundwater management in arid and semi-arid regions, Abhar Plain, Iran

Due to growing demand and reduction of water resources increasing pollution water, driven by dramatic population economic growth, arid semi-arid land’s imminent problems are nowadays aggravating. This study aims determine the most appropriate management strategies for balancing Abhar plain aquifer using SWOT coupled with AHP technique. The results indicate that weaknesses prevail over strengths as well threats opportunities. placement in quarter weaknesses-threats a defensive strategy indicates critical condition aquifer. solutions achieve goal groundwater were prioritized method. According results, improper consumption weight 72.5% is destructive factor reducing resources. Among types consumption, effect an agricultural carries 74.2%. exploitation illegal wells, overdraft license provisions precipitation traditional irrigation methods selected factors causing deteriration Also, filling changing type cultivation greenhouse crops cultivation, installing smart meter, observance license, implementing integrated pressurized systems, benefiting from suitable climatic conditions geographical location cultivating developing low-water use species industries on other hand, artificial recharge control surface reduce abstraction aquifers, adverse trend Plain can be controlled.
